Project Objective

Students will learn to compose artwork according to a subject while having fun color mixing and pulling paint for texture and unexpected results.

Part One

This portion of the lesson explains the overall Paint Pull Project in brief. This allows students to think about what they will create for their subject. Students will be pulling their paint onto paper today… Get ready for some fun!

Create a background by using mixed media such as watercolors, crayons, and colored pencils. Brainstorm ideas for the subject!

Cut the subject, Shadow the subject, and Glue the subject!

Student samples at the end of this slideshow can be used for classroom conversation.

What’s going to make your subject POP!

Students will…

  1. Make the subject big (about the size of your fist or bigger)
  2. Draw with pencil, Color with crayons, colored pencil, or markers, Outline the drawing lines to make it bold.
  3. Cut close to the edges of the subject (avoid bubble cutting)
  4. Add Shadow (outline subject with pencil, then fill it in with a dark color)
  5. Glue subject down (make sure there are no parts that come up)
