STEAM Pendulum Painting

Start by discussing Newton’s 1st Law of Motion. Assemble the pendulum and ask students to predict what pattern it will make and what variables could affect it.

Start by discussing different ocean habitats. Look at different types of animals and plants and talk about the colors and shapes that comprise the image.

Tints and Shades

Discuss the difference between tints and shades. Have students practice making both by blending colors.

Have students look at the painting, “The Starry Night.” Notice how the stars and sky are swirly. What are the main colors in his painting?


Critique the background and discuss how to create it by painting with watercolor washes and fading colors together.
