Let’s look at circles today. Do you see anything in this classroom that is a circle? Do you know the different ways circles are measured (circumference, radius, diameter, area)? You can also delve into art history and discuss Kandinsky’s Squares with Concentric Circles.
  1. Students will replace the pencil in the compass with a paint brush. Depending on the design of the compass, you may need to use a piece of tape to keep it in place.
  2. Have students mark six points on their paper, equal distance apart.
  3. Next, students can dip their paintbrush in water, and then paint, and practice making circles. They can start with the smallest or largest circle and work their way in or out to make their six concentric circles.
  4. To finish the piece, students can fill the rest of the page with color.
